The Mid-Atlantic Council of Trout Unlimited is a regional council of Trout Unlimited, an American non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of freshwater streams, rivers, and associated upland habitats for trout, salmon, other aquatic species, and people.
Established in 1959, Trout Unlimited, commonly referred to as "TU", is a national organization with more than 300,000 volunteers spread across 400 chapters spanning the entire United States. There is also Trout Unlimited National, headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, a network of paid scientists, conservation professionals, and lobbyists that actively work to restore, protect, and conserve freshwater fisheries and habitat.
Trout Unlimited is organized into "chapters," each of which is dedicated to a specific watershed in a specific area of the country. Each chapter is a group of volunteers who elect their own officers and representatives to their regional council as well as the National Leadership Council of Trout Unlimited.
The Mid-Atlantic Council is a multi-state council that includes Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. The council fully supports the mission and vision of Trout Unlimited, working to protect Maryland, D.C. and Delaware waters, and includes the National Capital Chapter-Trout Unlimited, Maryland Trout Unlimited, Seneca Valley Trout Unlimited, Potomac-Patuxent Trout Unlimited, Youghiogheny Trout Unlimited, Patapsco Valley Trout Unlimited, Nemacolin Trout Unlimited, and Delaware State Trout Unlimited.
